Legal Career Talk – Online with Daragh Fagan

Mr Fagan has taught History at St Paul’s School since September 2022, but before that he worked as a lawyer for 28 years. In this talk he will cover his legal career and share insight into this fascinating industry. Speaker Biography: After his History degree, he trained and qualified as a solicitor at a major City law firm, Herbert Smith Freehills, in their litigation department. He then moved to work as an in-house lawyer in leading global companies in three different sectors. He spent 10 years working for an Italian multinational oil and gas company (Eni/Agip) where he worked on projects around the world from Alaska to Iran, Trinidad to Nigeria, Russia to the North Sea, and lived and worked in Milan as well as London. He then spent 7 years at Reuters/Thomson Reuters, the news agency and financial information services company, covering legal affairs and managing a legal team in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia. His final legal job was as Group General Counsel (head of the legal department) and Company Secretary of Rentokil Initial plc, the UK-headquartered business services company. He has experience of recruiting and training junior lawyers, advising on legal areas from litigation and dispute resolution to mergers and acquisitions, competition law, contract negotiation, employment law, regulatory laws such as health and safety, data protection, corporate governance etc. He is also married to a barrister specialising in family law.
