St Paul’s Girls’ School will be running a physics-based extension programme aimed at year 12 students for those who are interested in applying for a physics-related degree (e.g. physics, engineering, physical natural sciences, materials sciences) at university but would also be beneficial for keen students who are just looking to deepen their understanding of A level physics and improve their problem-solving skills.
Date/s: Tuesdays & Wednesdays starting 2st January
Times: 4.00 – 4.35pm (Tuesdays) & 3.25 – 4.00pm (Wednesdays)
Location: St Paul’s Girls’ School, Brook Green, W6 7BS (Tuesdays) & online (Wednesdays)
Two 35 min sessions would be delivered each week – one on zoom and one at SPGS. The content of the sessions would be the same, so students would attend one or the other, depending on which one suited them logistically. The session at SPGS will run at 4pm on Tuesdays and the session on zoom will run at 3:25pm on Wednesdays.
The sessions will focus on:
- Building foundational understanding of core topics, such as Newtonian mechanics, electricity and quantum physics.
- Building strength in relevant mathematical skills, such as estimation, dimensional analysis and curve sketching.
- Increasing exposure and building competence solving questions that require more creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
